Andreas Herrler, associate professor of Anatomy & Embryology at the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences presents the book Andreae Vesalii invictissimi Caroli V. Imperatoris medici Opera omnia anatomica & chirurgica.
Andreas talks about the evolution of writing down knowledge and visual representation in books. Odin Essers, Curator of Maastricht University’s Special Collections shows us one volume of the original Vesalius print book from 1725. It contains beautiful anatomic drawings and illustrations.
The location in this video is the newest Digital Lab at Randwyck Library. The video is recorded in this room, because the anatomy room is called the Vesalius Room. Here you can find a lot of interesting anatomy objects for your study and research and one volume of the original Vesalius from our Special Collections. Andreas inspires us to use the Vesalius 3D scanner where you can discover every detail of a human body. Feel free to visit this room in the University Library Randwyck!

Talking about Nursing Research with Carin Dansen, nursing scientist at MUMC+.
The University Library also serves as the Academic Library of Maastricht University Hospital MUMC/azM. Hence, for a new Talking about books video we went to the hospital to visit Carin Dansen, a midwifery nurse and nursing scientist. Carin talks about Nursing research: generating and assessing evidence for nursing practice, a book by Denise F. Polit and Cheryl Tatano Bec. She highlights that the book is especially interesting to learn more about how to start nursing research, to collect (evidence) data and to conduct the research. Carin also gives a sneak peek into her working area, where new life often starts.
